Good website design is all about the user

When you’re creating a new website, your primary concern should always be the user and their requirements. It’s about understanding exactly what information they need from the site, and then designing the structure and navigation in a way that gets them to it as quickly as possible.

We come across so many websites that fail to put the user at the centre, with too much chaff and convoluted navigation systems making it confusing and frustratingly painful to find what you’re looking for. The less clicks the better. It doesn’t matter if your site looks great – if it’s not functional it’s failed.

So before you think too much about branding and visual design, concentrate first on structure and functionality. Is my user going to be able to find exactly what they need quickly and painlessly? If not, they’re only a few clicks away from your competitors.
