celebrating a city shaped by ceramics

Overview

Stoke-on-Trent’s long-standing connection to clay is woven into its heritage, culture and communities. Stoke on Clay is a cultural initiative designed to rekindle that connection - with a six-week festival celebrating the city’s ceramic legacy and its thriving creative scene. Through exhibitions, workshops and artist showcases hosted at landmark venues, the festival unites makers, residents and visitors in a shared celebration of place and identity.

We were commissioned to shape the festival’s public presence - delivering everything from brand identity and messaging to website design, print materials and campaign assets.

design that captures heritage with heart

challenge

The team behind Stoke on Clay had a clear vision but needed help turning that into a compelling, cohesive brand. The challenge was to create something that felt professional but grassroots, visually distinct but flexible, and inclusive without losing edge — all while supporting everything from local artist recruitment to venue comms and visitor engagement.

A toolkit for visibility, clarity and connection

approach

We developed a full brand identity that could flex across a wide range of materials — from large-scale posters and signage to digital assets and printed brochures. We also designed and built the festival website, giving organisers a practical, easy-to-manage platform to promote events and attract partners.

  • Created brand identity and messaging
  • Designed the festival website to reflect tone and purpose
  • Delivered marketing assets including posters, brochures, social graphics and print collateral
  • Provided visual consistency across venues and materials
  • Supported multi-venue wayfinding and exhibitor promotion

Building a festival brand from the ground up

outcome

The new identity gave Stoke on Clay a confident, professional presence that still felt rooted in community. With 15,000+ visitors in its first full year, the festival has quickly established itself as a key cultural event for the region — and the design system continues to support its growth year-on-year.
